Last year I needed to get my jewelry, specifically my necklaces sorted and stored in an organized way.  At the time I wanted to use ribbon to do a simple update on a standard cork board which I would hang my necklaces on.  This is what the board looked like with a little ribbon added around the edge.  Simple, effective and not very attractive but given that the board hangs behind the bedroom door and no one sees it I was fine with it.

Photo 2--Ribbon Trimmed Jewelry Board

Over the course of the year my necklace collection grew and I ran out for room on the board.  After giving a little thought to what I could do, I came up with an idea to create a Jewelry Closet for my necklaces.    Here is it.

This simple project doubled the storage space for my jewelry and allowed me to add some additional style to my bedroom décor.

Here’s what it took…

Two framed cork boards purchased from Wal-Mart

Paint–I used acrylic paint from Michael’s

Two Schlage Brass Plated hinges from Home Depot

A piece of fabric (measured to fit the face of the board)–I got this from Hancock Fabrics

1 decorative knob

Suede cording for the closure loop (from my stash)

And here’s How I Did it…

First I painted all edges of both boards in red to match the new color change I made in my bedroom for spring.

Next my sweet hubby attached the piano hinges on one side of each board to connect them.  The cork surface of each board in facing in.

We then added a decorative red and white striped knob which I purchased from Hobby Lobby last year on clearance for $.50 cents.  (p.s.  they have tons of knobs that they just marked down to 66% off–check their sale section).

Finally I added the decorative fabric to the front of the outside board, tacking it in place with gold thumb tacks.

What I also like about my new Jewelry Closet is the added bonus of using the front to pin inspirational style images.  What fun!

Hey, did you notice that I have some empty space in my closet to add some more jewelry?  Whoopee!

Have a great weekend!

In getting to know Melanie, I mentioned to her that I am on the board of directors of a non-product organization in Atlanta called The Community Assistance Center.  The organization’s mission is to bring  together community resources to provide compassionate assistance to persons in need, prevent homelessness, alleviate hunger and promote self-sufficiency.

One of the annual charity events for CAC is a fashion show and sale The sale features  designer fashions and accessories at bargain prices.  And, this year Stella and Dot jewelry will also be included in the event.  Melanie has so graciously offered to accessorize the fashion show and Stella and Jewelry will be for sale! Sunglasses are one of spring and summers must-have fashion accessories and this season the Cat Eye is the style of choice.

Cat Eye’s can be extreme…

Or Classic!

I remember wearing cat eye glasses when I was little and loved the look when it was worn by style icons such as Audrey  Hepburn.

 Pinned Image

I love to add great accessories to my wardrobe and if it’s the right piece I’ll pay the price, but I’m not one to spend a lot of money on sunglasses, especially when the style is a bit on the trendy side.  Here are a few Cat Eye Sunglasses I’ve rounded up for you to check out, all under $ 32.00!

Cat Eye Sunglasses  $5.80  Forever 21

Cesia Cat Eye Sunglasses in Green

Tortoise Cat Eye Sunglasses  $16.90  Shop Arika

Yellow Cat Eye Sunglasses  $5.80  Forever 21

FULL TILT Floral Cat Eye Sunglasses

Floral Cat Eye Sunglasses  $9.99  Tilly.com

If you’re worried about finding cat eye sunglasses to fit your face, here’s some great style info from CocoKouture.com that is sure to help you out.

Face Shape vs. Edge Shape

Believe or not, this trend can look good on anyone. However, certain shapes look good on particular shape faces. If you have a round face, opt for a pair that has sharper edges or curve upwards gracefully. If you have a diamond or square shaped face, a rounded-out edge admires your structure beautifully. Also if you are a trendsetter that needs to make a statement, try glasses that are pointy and stick out. This bold look is very chic and gives an outfit a touch of sophistication. These rules are simple and easy, but always make sure you try different pairs on to see which retro shades flatter your face structure.”

I’m planning on doing some spring shopping this weekend and a pair of Cat Eye sunglasses are definitely on my list.

Will you be buying a pair of Cat Eye’s or passing on this trend?
