I’m constantly looking at images on Pinterest but now and then I come across an image that just mesmerizes me.  Even though purple is not my color and I don’t like the idea of decorating with taxidermy, I love the impact the color coordinated books give to this space.  It might take a lifetime to get this look with books you’ve collected but a few rolls of wrapping paper and an afternoon of DIY could get you the same results.  Design is not always something you want to copy but rather something you want to be inspired by!
Have a great weekend and enjoy these links…

About a week ago I told you I was itching to paint something pink.  Well, here’s what ended up at the other end of the spray paint can…. this tray!
What started out as a $1.00 melamine tray ended up as a fun summer addition to my DIY bar cart.  The color works perfectly with the monogrammed plate I picked up from C Wonder last year and is a vibrant contrast to the gold bar cart.
While I’m in a pink mood, I’m also doing a little summer update to my bedroom which I share soon.
Until then…enjoy these weekend reads….

Do you ever go through a phase where you are totally smitten with a color and just want to surround yourself with it?  You want to wear it, decorate with it and have almost found yourself calling it your favorite color.  Well pink, hot pink to be exact is my color crush of the moment.  I just can’t get enough of it and the happy vibe that it puts out.  I recently found myself searching for pink pieces to add to my wardrobe and am looking for ways to incorporate the color into my décor.  Pink is one of those colors that can be used in a variety of ways, always makes a statement and puts a smile on my face!
I love the idea of transforming an old piece of furniture into a special piece with pink paint and new hardware.
Or maybe I’ll take a few of the old frames I have stored in my garage and paint them pink.  It could be the start of a really fabulous gallery wall.
Painting a basket hot pink just might work too.  I can envision this pop of color brightening up my black and white bedroom for summer.
Maybe new DIY pillows are in order.
I just thrifted several old candlesticks that could be up-styled with some pink paint.

I’m also in love with the idea of painting some old book covers hot pink.  What do you think?
I come across old flatware all the time when I’m out thrifting and think this paint project could be a fun one.
Painting is not something I do a lot of, especially when it’s 85 degrees outside but I’m itching to get a little crafty this weekend.  Stay tuned and see what falls prey to my can of pink spray paint!

One of my new party décor obsessions is Tassel Garland.  There is just something so playful and charming about these dangling poufs of paper pieces.  I especially love them in metallic but just about any color combination is a great way to style a birthday party, baby shower or cocktail soiree for friends.
Be Inspired!

I spent time on Saturday making 30 tassels to use at an event the non-profit I work with was holding on Sunday.  Unfortunately the event was cancelled due to weather so now I’ve got 30 tassels to do something with.  I guess a party is in order!

Happy Friday!

Well, as you can see I didn’t get around to posting my DIY project yesterday.  Instead, I was at the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC) spending the morning and afternoon with two Million Dollar Decorators

Mary and Martyn shared lots of fabulous design advice with the audience and afterwards spent time chatting with each of us and taking photos.  Much of what they had to share hit home with me and I gained some valuable insights on how I can make my design business better.  Thanks Mary and Martyn!

Now, on to the fun DIY project I want  to share with you…DIY cloches!

You see, I love glass cloches.  There is just something beautiful about displaying items you love under glass as if they were priceless heirlooms.  Since I already have a couple of traditional glass cloches I decided I wanted to add a few more to my mix and this time I wanted them have a bit more style.  With that, a super quick and easy DIY project was born!

I made three cloches each with a different decorative knob handle.  The wood lamp bases really add a lot to the smaller cloche and the decorative plate I used with the taller cloche can easily be changed out when I change the items displayed inside.  I’m still finding the right spot in my home to display each cloche and I’m also going to be changing/adding to the elements inside each one as well.  Plus, I’m looking forward to changing out the looks seasonally, inspired by these cloche displays!

I’ve been slightly obsessing with paint-by-numbers art for the last year or so.  It reminds me of my childhood when I would spend hours upon hours painting horse images (because I have a thing for horses).  Back in the day, paint-by-numbers art was considered elementary art for those of us wanting to feel like real artist, but here lately paint-by-numbers art pieces are becoming collectors items and are being used by designers to infuse unique art décor into their room designs.

PBN art can be done on all type of home décor pieces and is even being use on fashion accessories.

PBN art is a great way to add an eclectic feel to an art wall and is an easy and inexpensive way to own a piece of “original art”.

After feeding my obsession with PBN art via Pinterest, I finally decided to buy a kit and give my painting career another try.  I decided on this beautiful bird image and I’ll be sure to keep you updated on the progress.  Until then you can check out lots more inspiration on my Paint-By-Numbers pinterest board.

If you want to give the paint-by-numbers thing a try check these on-line sources for kits.
GoodPaintByNumber.com has their kits categorized by theme and the canvas piece comes already stretched on a frame. They even sell three panel kits so that you can create a long horizontal pieces of art.
Hancock’s Fabrics also has a pretty good selection of kits as does JoAnne Fabric.
If you want the look but don’t want to get your hand dirty, check out Etsy for a great selection of vintage DIY paint-by-number pieces.
Happy Painting!
