Since I spend so much time in my office, I feel the need to surround myself with pretty office accessories.  Having an organized & stylish office space is not only necessary to fuel my creativity but it also spurs me to keep my small space organized and tidy.  There are a few essential elements I think every office space needs like a desk lamp and desk chair and beyond that there are some really stylish pieces that I think every office could use.  Today I’ve rounded up some of my favorite inspirational office spaces and a handful of adorable office accessories I found on Etsy.
Check it out….be inspired and then get back to work, in style!

I love the simplicity of the space.  The striped rug adds just enough pattern to keep the space interesting and that mirror is a definite style statement.

I love the idea of a hanging light over the desk and the bold color that is balanced against an all white space.

So much to love about this space.  Why go with a brown wood desk when you the color pink exist?   And that animal print bulletin boards is so stylish.

Upgrading a simple metal file cabinet is just a few paint strokes away.

I spotted this book at the bookstore over the weekend and was really taken by all the beautiful images it has. As someone who was classified years ago as a “winter” {remember the days of the fashion color wheel?} I have never had a real affinity for pastels in my clothing or in my décor.  I am however growing to like the infusion of a few soft color statements in a room and how they portray a sense of femininity and sophistication. And in fashion, nothing seems fresher for spring than soft colored accessories

It’s SPRING and there’s nothing I love more than spring flowers, even when it comes to gift wrapping.

I’ve got a couple of special birthdays to celebrate this month, so I got a head start on buying gifts and got them all wrapped up.

I wanted these gifts to be bright and bold so I choose a yellow and white polka dot paper, red flowers and orange ribbon.  I also wrapped one of the gifts in a green gift back using the same flowers and ribbon to dress it up.

To make the flower band, I pulled the flower bunch apart separating the flower heads from the leaves. The leaves were attached in pairs so I had to cut them apart.

Next I cut a length of ribbon to fit around my box and then hot glued the leaves and flower heads to the center of the ribbon.  I layered the flowers and the leaves to make the cluster look fuller.

Then all I had to do was to wrap the ribbon around the box and tape it down underneath

I placed the flower band vertically on the outside of the bag and hot glued it to the inside and bottom of the bag.

This is a simple and easy way to create beautiful gift wrap and you can customize the look by changing the paper and flowers to fit your occasion.

Happy Springs!   Here’s to warmer and sunnier days ahead.

As you read this, I’ll be in the middle of teaching the first of two design workshops at Smith’s, a local home décor and gift store here in Atlanta.  Teaching and sharing my passion for design is one of my greatest joys in life.  I love helping people tap into their creative side and want to make their homes and the décor that surrounds them each day the best it can be.  So while I’m off teaching my workshops, I hope you’ll make time this weekend to tap into your passion and do something you love!
Here are a few links I think you’ll like and a little something special that made my week.
I found this advice on Improving Your Life in One Week to be pretty insightful.
If you are an Etsy shop owner or own an online retail business, you’ll want to read this post on how to protect your handcrafted pieces written by my friend Sarah.  Eye Opening!
The latest issue of Gatherings Magazine is out and it is sure to get you in the mood for spring!
I think this bag is perfect for spring (and summer)!

And something that made my week…
Although I left my job at Eddie Bauer and moved away from Seattle over 12 years ago, I’ve kept in touch with many of the people I worked with.  My team of buyers were some of the best in the business and they have all gone on to great things in their careers.  I have always felt and hoped that my training and mentoring helped to develop each one of them to be the best they can be.  Last week one of my former buyers, Geri sent me an unexpected gift (something I really love) and special note in the mail that confirmed just that.

and this note that really touched my heart!

Each of us was put on this earth for a purpose and I believe that one of my purposes’ in life is to mentor others.  I don’t think it’s necessarily because of what I know but more because I have a real desire to help others become the best they can be in life and strive to help them do just that.  I learned early on in my career that I am only as good as the people who work for me and I can honestly say, given the people who I’ve had the pleasure of leading over the years, my GOOD rating is pretty high!
Thanks Geri for the gift and your special words!
