Archive for the ‘NightStands’ Category

Every now and then I’ll see a post on a blog about what the blogger has on their nightstand.  The nightstand is a pretty sacred place in my book, housing items that can help lull you to sleep or things that you reach for in the middle of night when you can’t sleep.  It is always fascinating to read into the lives of others from what they have or don’t have on their nightstand so I thought I’d share WHAT’S ON MY NIGHTSTAND with you and give you a little peek into my life.

My night stand in a combination of pretty and function.  Since my bedroom decor is black, white, yellow and grey I pulled some of those colors onto my nightstand.

My night stand is a skirted table with a black cloth.

On top I currently have a stack of books, my favorite hand cream by Lollia, a wedding picture, a journal, glasses and a pretty mercury glass vase with flowers.

There’s also a white lacquered box which holds all kinds of stuff (handheld recorder to capture ideas, lavender spray for my pillow, an eye mask ’cause I like darkness when I sleep and a portable radio)!

My current reading list includes Cupcakes and Cashmere, Good Bones, Great Pieces and Flea Market Decorating.  All books I highly recommend!

So there you have it, WHAT’S ON MY NIGHT STAND.

I’d love to learn more about you from what’s on your nightstand so attach a picture in the comments or head to the ConfettiStyle Facebook page and upload a photo!

p.s.  under the tableskirt are a slew of books–which are kind of an obsession!

Nightstands are a key part in every bedroom, anchoring the bed and giving the entire space form,  function and style!

Here’s what it takes to make your nightstand, stand out…

  • The Nightstand Itself–whenever possible, avoid a matching piece to your bed/headboard.  A unique nightstand will give new life to a simple headboard/bed.  Try a piece of antique furniture, a small writing desk, a cabinet with drawers, a skirted round table or even stacked luggage pieces.  Do something unexpected!

  • The Lighting–choose a lamp that will provide good reading light and one that adds some style and personality to the space.  Ceramic base lamps are great for bedrooms as are crystal or glass lamps.  And, if your nightstand is too small to hold a tabletop lamp, think about hanging a pendant overhead.  Trey Chic!

  • The AccessoriesI don’t know about you, but I love to have a stash of special treasures on my nightstand…
Books/iPad–for late night reading or early morning blog browsing
Scented Candle–lighting a candle an hour or so before you go to bed will help you sleep better and have sweet dreams
Bedside Clockforgo the glow-in-the-dark electronic version and add a stylish chrome or brass clock next to your bed
Flowers–real or faux, flowers will add a sense of opulence to your bedroom.
Photos–a photo of my husband and I sits on my nightstand…a great reminder as I fall to sleep of what matters most.

And, for those of you that like a cleaner look on your nightstand, use decorative boxes or baskets to hold everything.
  • The Surround–decorating your nightstand does not just stop at what you put on top of your nightstand. Creating a dynamic look for your nightstand also includes what surrounds it.  I love hanging a grouping of framed art on the wall above the nightstand, or a decorative mirror.  Both elements will add impact around your nightstand.

I’ll be spending the next few days at the Atlanta Gift Show and will be back Monday with some of the new products and trends from the show.  Until then, try giving your nightstand a new look and see what a difference it makes!

Sweet Dreams until Monday.

p.s.  Thank you for all the sweet emails about my 20th Wedding Anniversary.  It’s a joy to be loved inside your home, and out!
