Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I’ve got a quick and simple Gift Wrap Inspiration that is perfect for adding a little fun to mom’s gift!
Slide1 copy
It’s no secret that I love paper products and one of my favorite crafts to make are paper pinwheels.  When thinking about how I wanted to wrap my Mother’s Day gifts,  I thought a Paper Pinwheel Topper would be a fun and whimsical touch.
Here’s how to do it…

After making my pinwheels, I wrapped my boxes in polka dot craft paper.  I added ribbon bands in colors to match my pinwheel and secured my pinwheels as bows on the top of each gift.

This a quick and easy DIY project that you can do for yourself or give as gifts.

It’s SPRING and there’s nothing I love more than spring flowers, even when it comes to gift wrapping.

I’ve got a couple of special birthdays to celebrate this month, so I got a head start on buying gifts and got them all wrapped up.

IMG_1678 copy

I wanted these gifts to be bright and bold so I choose a yellow and white polka dot paper, red flowers and orange ribbon.  I also wrapped one of the gifts in a green gift back using the same flowers and ribbon to dress it up.

    IMG_5823 copy

To make the flower band, I pulled the flower bunch apart separating the flower heads from the leaves. The leaves were attached in pairs so I had to cut them apart.

IMG_1675 copy

Next I cut a length of ribbon to fit around my box and then hot glued the leaves and flower heads to the center of the ribbon.  I layered the flowers and the leaves to make the cluster look fuller.

IMG_1676 copy

Then all I had to do was to wrap the ribbon around the box and tape it down underneath

IMG_1680 copy

I placed the flower band vertically on the outside of the bag and hot glued it to the inside and bottom of the bag.

This is a simple and easy way to create beautiful gift wrap and you can customize the look by changing the paper and flowers to fit your occasion.

The Oscars are this Sunday and if you are throwing an Oscars viewing party, here are a few really great party décor ideas I’ve rounded up for  you.

Oscar party

This Clapperboard can easily be made with foam core, chalkboard paint and chalk.  I’d use it on the food buffet or if I was having a sit down dinner, I’d create one for each place setting and use it as a placemat alternative.

Did you know…
A clapperboard is a device used in filmmaking and video production to assist in the synchronizing of picture and sound, and to designate and mark particular scenes and takes recorded during a production. The sharp “clap” noise that the clapperboard makes can be identified easily on the audio track, and the shutting of the clapstick can be identified easily on the separate visual track. The two tracks can then be precisely synchronised by matching the sound and movement.

A cute and easy way to dress up a beverage glass for your big shindig.  Check the hair accessory aisle for the bows which will save you from crafting your own.

Oscar party centerpieces/ awards

Who knew a Ken Doll could be turned into an Oscar statue?  Glue a piece of florist foam between the hands and insert flowers.  Fresh flowers will last through the night.

Oscar party ideas

A little computer time and you can create fun labels for your bottled beverages.

popcorn bar for OSCAR Party

Every 3+  hours awards show calls for popcorn and why not give it a chic look by creating cones made from decorative cellophane and propping them in champagne glasses.  The silver tray adds a touch more glam!

Oscar Party

Dollar Store plastic glasses and bowls take on a glamorous feel when you spray paint them (on the outside) with gold paint. Use them to serve individual serving of candy and treats.

DIY Oscar Party Voting

I don’t know if my husband will play along with this one but I’m going to give it a try.  Throughout the show, jot down the names of actors that take the prize of categories you create.

Category ideas:

Best Acceptance Speech

Best Hair

Best Men’s Shoes

Best Looking Couple

Best Bling

Most Thankful

Best Potential Couple

If you’re having an Oscar party this weekend, have fun & cheers!

Ok, I know I am not the only one who roams the aisles of HomeGoods and TJMaxx looking for inexpensive decorative accessories and comes home with a bag full of the adorable baking supplies.  Lately my obsession has been with cupcake liners AND the only problem with that is that I don’t bake!!!
Well, there is a method to my madness!  Upon seeing stacks of cute and inexpensive cupcake liners sitting on the store shelves I started thinking about other creative ways I could use them.  After all they are just pieces of  patterned paper and patterned paper can be used in lots of ways, right?  As that thought was running through my head the idea hit me…use them to decorate wrapping paper.

So here  it is, my latest Gift Wrap Inspiration using Cupcake Liners!

Popping in this morning to share some Gift Wrap Inspiration with you.

While I love elaborate gift wrap and bows,  I’ve recently started buying inexpensive vintage buckles, brooches and hair clips to use as a fun embellishment on gifts I wrap in inexpensive Kraft paper.  The addition of some pretty ribbon and a fun bauble can take a simple wrap job for mundane to marvelous!

Be Inspired and Have a Great Weekend!

Design Tip:  Instead of purchasing brown Kraft paper in small rolls, head to Home Depot and buy Brown Masking Paper used by painters to cover surfaces….it’s only $2.47 for a 180 ft. roll!  You can’t beat that!

Always keep a lookout for paper, fabric and ribbon flowers at the craft stores.  They are a great way to add pizzaz to simple wrap.  P.S.  check the hair accessory area in store for inexpensive flowers on pin and clips too!

I love this combination of bold, graphic wrapping paper with solid colored satin ribbons.  Easy elements to keep on hand for a quick gift wrap job!

Create paper buckles from decorative scrapbook paper, add ribbon and wrap!  So chic for the holidays!

Creating pretty packaging has a lot to do with thinking outside the box.  Here, a strip of candy buttons was used to create a bow for a gift bag and pretzels were added along with yarn to dress up a plain gift bag.

Just about anything can be used to create a beautifully wrapped gift.  Keep your eyes open for bargain utensils, buttons and round containers while you’re out thrifting.

p.s.  love the embellishment created from cupcake wrappers (top photo)!

For some reason I have a slew of old stamps and just have never put them to use.  This great package above gives me inspiration for a unique way to seal gift wrap.

Scott Antique Market, which I attend each month has a slew of plastic vintage buckles for $1.00 or less.  I love the idea of putting these to use with pretty ribbon.

I’ve been in a crafting mood lately as you could tell from the ribbon placemats blogged about yesterday.  One of my favorite  things to make are handmade cards.  I’ve been crafting cards for years and am trying new techniques to make my designs special.  This time around I pulled my sewing machine into the action.

Check out the Gifts Galore Card I literally stitched together!

Here’s the how-to on making this card.

Supplies:

  • Blank white notecard—size will depend on how many presents you want to place on the front of the card.
  • Scraps of decorative scrapbook paper
  • Double sided tape
  • Brads or other small embellishments
  • Scissors
  • Sewing Machine
  • 2 thread colors that work with the colors of your decorative paper
  • Sewing needle
  • Craft Glue
  • And of course, no project of mine would be complete without incorporating May Arts Ribbon!  This project calls for narrow ribbon, 1/8” or narrower!  I used the following ribbon styles:

Now the fun begins!

  1. Cut your decorative papers into small square and rectangular shapes and arrange a layout on the front of our card.  Make sure to leave a little space between the packages for stitching and bows you will add.
  2. Once you have your layout, use double-sided tape to secure the paper pieces in place.
  3. Next, with your card open, sew around the edges of each package using a zig zag stitch.  Alternate the thread colors to add a bit more interest to your design.
  4. With the paper “packages” sewn in place, add ribbon in a criss-cross pattern to a couple of packages.  Make a few small bows, securing them in the center with your craft glue and then stitch them onto the tops of one or two packages. Add small brads and embellishments if you want a little more bling on your card.

To give my card a finished look, I lined the inside front with a piece of decorative paper, covering up the stitch lines.

Thanks for stopping by today and checking out my latest craft project.  I’ll be back tomorrow with another DIY project!

Hope your weekend is going great!
